Our History

Founded by Douglas V. Burrell in 1973, Burrell's Excavating Inc., which began as Burrell's Parking Lot Service, repaired parking lots and driveways for local homeowners and merchants. Doug Burrell was a full-time fireman and used his backhoe service for extra revenue to help support his eight children.

Over time Doug's youngest son David became more involved with his father's business acquisitions, utimately buying the business in 1982. David changed the business name to Burrell's Excavating and his ambition was primarily to expand the company. His first steps were to build a larger shop along with the purchase of a new 310B backhoe and hire his first full-time employee Gary Guinn.

In the years since that time, David has build Burrell's Excavating Inc. (incorporated and bonded in 1992) into a very successful small business. David had a staff of ten in 1992, and is proud to say that seven are still employed at this time. We are happy to say that in 2010 Burrell's Excavting employees approx. 30 people, a growth we are very proud of.

In 1997 David expanded into the Sand & Gravel business know today as KMC Sand & Gravel, the business is equipped with a Jawcrusher, Conecrusher and screeening plants supplying extensive products to both municipalities and private individuals.

Today, the family tradition of Burrell's Excavating is being continued with David's son Matthew joining the business and playing a very large part in the continued success of the company.  In November 2008 Burrell's Excavating was honored by the Chenango County Chamber of Commerce as the small business of the year.
